Supporting only half of the events in a match is likely to leave a team up the proverbial creek without a paddle;the K&P Women were lucky the other teams were in the same boat;the Men had no such buoyancy.
With only 3 teams from the Western Division going on to the Mens Final this summer,it's a case of - "Can do better".Such results are unlikely to enamour team management. The Women, though, still head the challenge for the retention of their Western title.
On the Mens side, the sprinters found condusive conditions - our President,M45 Pat Logan, ran 11.7/23.8,times he needed for forthcoming Masters Interland International selection;Jason-Louis Bernard lowered his 200 best to a round 23.0;Adam Bellis & James Moroney both won over 400 in good 'training' mode;and we won a tight, nippy 4x200(1.34.0) with Draco Mkpa joining the latter three.Elsewhere,U17s Patrick Hillyer,William Trimble & Adam Wicks were effective and Ron Taylor(coming from Beckenham!) & Peter Wilkins covered the 3000 but the rest was non-existent.
On the distaff,Mary Iheke claimed a 12.9/58.9 double, the latter a near-PB and there were cameo performances elsewhere, but only 5 appeared.
Scores - Men: SMR 49,Walton 37,E&E 29,K&P 28(paltry!),BA 22 whilst the Women's gave K&P 24,Walton 22,SMR 19 & E&E 18. Overall,we lie 2nd on countback in the Mens and we lead the Womens.
Full results can be found on the Walton AC site - wwww.waltonac.co.uk - and on the NB at Kingsmeadow.
